چکیده

Abstract Background There is a general agreement upon the importance of acquiring laparoscopic skills outside operation room through simulation-based training. However, high-fidelity simulators are cost-prohibitive and elicit high cognitive load, while low-fidelity lack effective feedback. This paper describes simulator bridging existing gaps with affine velocity as new assessment variable. Primary validation results also presented. Methods Psycho-motor engineering key features have been considered e.g. haptic feedback complementary variables. Seventy-seven participants tested (17 expert surgeons, 12 intermediates, 28 inexperienced interns, 20 novices). The content validity was 10-point Likert scale discriminative power by comparing four groups’ performance over two sessions. Results Participants rated positively, from 7.25 to 7.72 out 10 (mean, 7.57). Experts intermediates performed faster fewer errors (collisions) than interns novices. brought additional differentiations, especially between Conclusion affordable makes it possible learn train techniques. Self-assessment basic easily slight cost compared simulators. It could be good trade-off among products currently used for surgeons'

Modelling of human haptic skill: a framework and preliminary results

Haptic interaction in human motor tasks requires special modelling techniques in robot learning. This paper proposes a novel scheme for haptic skill modelling, covering the modelling procedure starting from reference data acquisition until a competent model is obtained. The iterative structure of the proposed scheme provides a clear guideline to the modelling workflow. The scheme as well as the...

Preliminary results on dynamic analysis of a new test rig for wheel-rail contact studies

A new reduced–scale test rig is developed owing to significantly contribute to the applicability of the laboratory tests on rolling contact fatigue (RCF) in wheel-rail material. This paper introduces the dynamic analysis of the test rig, in order to assess the vibration behaviour of the system with respect to contact phenomenon. Finite element modelling (FEM) is used to simulate the mecha...

Electrotactile Haptic Display on the Fingertips: Preliminary Results

Electrical stimulation of the sense of touch may be used to display pictorial information to blind computer users via a fingertip-scanned (haptic) touch tablet containing embedded electrodes. This might be particularly useful to users of systems with graphical user interfaces, or with drawing and layout software. Electrotactile (electrocutaneous) stimulation on the fingertip, however, differs s...

Preliminary face and construct validation study of a virtual basic laparoscopic skill trainer.

BACKGROUND The Virtual Basic Laparoscopic Skill Trainer (VBLaST) is a developing virtual-reality-based surgical skill training system that incorporates several of the tasks of the Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS) training system. This study aimed to evaluate the face and construct validity of the VBLaST system. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty-nine subjects were voluntarily recruited at...
